You will be able to register for one presentation per session from June 1st, God willing, via the Conference App. If you come across any issues, please contact us.

Session 1 - Monday 6th July 10:45am

ACBM – the Asia Pacific mission areas (Jonno Nutter, Wamuran, Qld in F10)

This presentation offers an engaging overview of the Asia-Pacific Christadelphian Bible Mission (ACBM) — who we are, how we operate, and the breadth of the exciting and life saving work we support across the Asia-Pacific region. We’ll be exploring Queensland-supported mission areas in Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam, before doing a deep dive-in on Cambodia as a case study in active, growing mission work. The session will explore what day-to-day mission work really looks like on the ground: The Bible Education Centres, the ecclesias, the student dormitories, and the practical building and sustainability projects — including agricultural initiatives — that support long-term preaching and local growth. We hope this presentation will be able to touch your heart and exhibit to the listener the important, fun and exciting work that the ACBM is doing and how you can become involved.

[Bro. Jonno is passionate about preaching in mission areas and is heavily involved in the Qld ACBM. His wife Sis. Ren is Cambodian, and they travel back to Cambodia often to support the mission activities there.]

Irrationality in the Bible (Tim Buttsworth, Riverwood, NSW in E18)

In 2 Chronicles 4:2 and 1 Kings 7:23, we have a description of a ‘completely round’ object whose circumference covers a length three times that of its diameter. Scientists and mathematicians use the greek letter ‘pi’ to refer to the circumference-to-diameter ratio of a completely round object, and we now know that this number is ‘irrational’, which means that it is extraordinarily difficult to describe accurately. However, we do know enough about ‘pi’ to know that it is certainly not three. What are we to make of this apparent biblical contradiction? In this talk, I will examine the incredible history (both ancient and recent) of the number ‘pi’, and what this means for the ‘infallibility of the Bible’.

[Bro. Tim has a doctorate in Mathematics, and works in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New South Wales. Tim and his wife Sis. Jordyn, and their daughter are from Riverwood Ecclesia.]

Israel – Whose Land is it Really? (Sid Levett, Canterbury, Vic in E19)

As Christadelphians we have long been familiar with God’s purpose with Israel. It has been a central feature of our belief. Talks on Israel’s past and future are, however, now less frequent. How clearly do we currently understand this core issue? In contrast we have been assailed with Hamas propaganda and its often unquestioned portrayal in the Western media. In this talk we will address the significant Biblical statements on God’s plan for Israel and consider recent issues in the region. We will conclude with a meditative section contemplating the privilege of knowing God’s plan for the nation and the earth.

[We welcome Bro. Sid and his wife Sis. Judy from the Canterbury Ecclesia. Sid has written magazine articles and co-authored the book ‘The Sign of His Coming’ and has worked in many roles over the years for the benefit of ecclesias across Australia.]

Loved Bible Project (Phil & Vicki Boon, Brisbane, Qld in C14)

The Loved Bible Project opens up new opportunities for us to preach the word of God in these last days. In this session, you will learn how the LBP came to be and commence marking up your own Loved Bible to share (see below for two options).

Once completed, these ‘loved’, colour-coded, and highlighted Bibles tell the story of God’s amazing love for us and His incredible plan for this earth and are ready to be given to friends, neighbours or someone you think needs God in their lives.

Option 1: Donate $30 at the Info Desk prior to the session and receive a free bible, work-pack (complete with printed message), pens and a pencil case.

Option 2: Attend as an observer only, watching or assisting others do the practical work on their bibles. You still receive a free work pack to use it later on for your own Loved Bible project.

To date, Loved Bible workshops have proven very popular and exciting, so come along, ‘love’ a Bible, and have some fun as we reveal the Word of God to share with others.

[Bro. Phil & Sis. Vicki Boon are keen to find ways to connect with those seeking the true gospel message. They are promoting this unique and practical method around south-east Queensland.]

Making sense of fear (Peter Window, Wilston, Qld in F04)

In this session we challenge the notion that fears are irrational and suggest fear can result from an individuals’ conscious or sub-conscious ‘sense-making’ formed by experiences, beliefs, interpretations and consequences. Appreciating this distinction prompts us to consider two key elements: a) do we have underlying fears we are not aware of based on our sub-conscious sense making?; and b) what do these fears reveal about how we view God and His plan for us?

[As well as being a keen Bible student, Bro. Peter has a degree in Physiotherapy and is the Research Coordinator at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. We welcome Peter, his wife Sis. Sarah and their daughter to the Conference.]

Mental Health and Caring for Those Struggling (FEMALE ONLY SESSION) (Kylee Mingham, Birkdale, Qld in LIB)

Understanding mental health and how to care for those who are struggling is something that touches almost every one of us. Most of us have either supported someone we love through a difficult period or walked through our own struggles. In this female discussion group, we’ll explore what mental health challenges can look like, how to care for others lovingly, and the importance of caring for ourselves in the process. Together we will share encouragement grounded in faith, remembering that with God all things are possible, that He is the God who comforts us in our troubles, and trusting that He has a greater plan for every one of us.

[Kylee Mingham is a Psychosocial Recovery Coach who has worked and studied for a number of years in the mental health and disability industry. She specialises in mental health disorders, behaviours, and drug and alcohol issues. Her role supports individuals to access and navigate mental health services within the community and hospital systems so they can work towards achieving their goals. Kylee holds multiple certificates relating to mental health, is an AIN nurse, and has a Diploma in Mental Health and Counselling. As a Psychosocial Recovery Coach, lived experience is also an important component of the role, alongside holding a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work.]

Relationships: the forgotten, crucial key (David Alexander, Dandenong Ranges, Vic in E22)

Modern society’s obsession with the financial bottom line devalues something God sees as far more important: relationships. Studies show that relationships in society have suffered particularly from the COVID-19 pandemic and its associated isolation (I live in Melbourne!!). Even within the ecclesia, we easily fall into the hypocrisy of focussing on visible acts of service, heedless of the physical or emotional needs of our brothers and sisters. But the bride of Christ, like the first woman herself, was created not for works, but for the very purpose of relationship. All this merely illustrates the age-old lesson that Scripture emphasises so strongly: God’s desire not just for works but for faithfulness and love. Reprioritising relationships has a profound impact on our attitudes to ecclesial life.

[Bro. David is a committed follower of Jesus Christ who loves uncovering the wisdom and beauty woven throughout Scripture (examples: the women at the Temple, or Simeon called Niger). He is a research scientist by trade and also enjoys playing the piano. We welcome Bro. David, Sis. Kerry and their children to Brisbane.]

The Greatest Designer in the World (Graham Parcell, Hyde Park, SA in F03)

In our world we see the work of skilled designers everywhere in fashion, cars, computers, architecture, aeroplanes, spaceships and many more. In God’s Creation we see numerous examples of God’s design genius. Biomimicry is a whole science devoted to man’s copying of God’s designs in nature. Join us for a celebration of God’s wide-ranging creative brilliance and wisdom as we explore examples in the human body, the animal kingdom and our “just-so” planet.

[Bro. Graham is a passionate Bible student whose favourite subject is creation. Graham is a Executive Search Consultant based in Adelaide with his wife, Sis. Jenny.]

The Heavens Declare! (Stephen Hughes, North Brisbane, Qld in the Hall)

In this presentation, we will look at some of the recent amazing discoveries made using the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) and the new Vera Rubin telescope currently being commissioned. Recent discoveries continue to illuminate Psalm 19:1 ‘The heavens declare the glory of God’.

[Bro. Stephen is an Honorary Senior Fellow and Lecturer in the School of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Qld. He has published articles as diverse as ‘The physics of nerf guns’ to ‘Cosmic catapults: bringing coronal mass ejections into the classroom’. Stephen and his wife Sis. Jane attend North Brisbane ecclesia.]

What you don’t want to think (or talk) about until you need to: early estate and financial planning for Retirement Village or Residential Aged Care living. (Brad Sandilands & Kerri Mendl in C13)

Understanding, planning for, or navigating the financial and practical challenges of a transition to retirement village living or residential aged care can be very stressful for our older members and their families – more so since new laws and arrangements commenced on 1st Nov 2025. These sessions aim to provide timely and practical advice and guidance for older members of our community who may be interested in planning a potential transition into retirement village living or residential aged care, either in one of the villages or homes within our community, or elsewhere, in the future and also family members, carers and friends of older members. Participants will be introduced to some of the basic financial, legal, and practical matters that need to be considered in advance, and where to obtain more specialist advice; so that transition can be achieved in a more prepared, streamlined, and (hopefully) less stressful manner. Coverage will include appropriate set up of Wills, appointment of Attorney(s) and Executor(s), potential impacts on Centrelink pensions, etc., as well as important aged care acronyms and their relevance, such as ACD’s, ACAT’s, DMF’s, and RAD’s. Special Guest presenters are Brad Sandilands (Quality Insite & Connect-the-Dots) and Kerri Mendl (Alteris Financial Group).

[Brad is an experienced aged care professional with expertise in aged care entry processes, funding structures, and the financial decisions that accompany care. He is passionate about helping families understand accommodation payments, means testing, and ongoing care costs, translating often complex legislation into clear, practical guidance. Kerri helps people confidently navigate the important, complex and often stressful financial and practical decisions involved in aged care and retirement living. For expanded resumes see the Conference App]

Session 2 - Monday 6th July 4:00pm

Ancient Places, Living Truth (Mark Hill, Shaftsbury Road, NSW in Theatre)

Step into the landscapes where faith was forged from the hills of Israel to the ruins of Asia Minor and Europe. These high-definition films, shot on location by bro Mark, trace the paths of God’s ancient people – His Apostles and ordinary believers whose lives shaped the Bible we have today. They are not stories or myths. These are real places, real people, and real moments — preserved in stone and scripture. Through vivid imagery and thoughtful commentary, the films invite us to see ancient sites not as relics, but as living witnesses to timeless truths. Film 1: ‘Israel – Where Scripture Breathes Truth’. Walk the streets of Jerusalem, Capernaum, Caesarea Philippi (vicinity) and Caesarea Maritima – places where God’s servants once spoke words that changed lives. These aren’t just stories of the past; they are echoes with relevance for us today. The Bible is a book of real life, and these sites remind us that its lessons were lived, not imagined. Film 2: ‘Europe & Asia Minor — In the Steps of the first century Believers’. Travel with Paul and the early believers through Corinth, Patmos, Athens, Rome, Pergamon, and Ephesus. See the island where John received the Revelation. Stand where believers once gathered, taught, and endured. These ancient stones still speak of courage, conviction, and the enduring call to faith.

[Bro. Mark is a keen videographer and has compiled videos from his trips to Israel and Europe to bolster our belief in the reality of God’s work with his people.]

Ancient Roman Roads (Robert Tutticci, Kedron Brook, Qld in Library)

Learn how the ancient Roman roads in Turkey and Israel, built over 2,000 years ago, formed a vital, durable network for military, trade, and communication connecting the Levant with Anatolia and Europe. Key routes include the coastal Via Maris in Israel and the Via Tauri connecting Tarsus to Antioch, with many remnants featuring stone-paved surfaces and milestones still visible today.

[Bro. Robert is a practicing engineer based in Brisbane, with his wife Sis. Naomi and their two children.]

Construction – Building Faith: The Antidote to Deconstruction (Stephen Dodson, Riverwood, NSW in E19)

In an age where “deconstruction” has become a public, celebrated, and socially reinforced trend, many Christians find their faith shaken or abandoned. This talk explores why deconstruction has become so prominent and why it is not a new phenomenon, tracing its roots from modern philosophy back to the experiences of Jesus’ earliest disciples. We examine the major drivers of deconstruction; ecclesial hurt, poor or distorted theology, the desire to justify sin, and powerful cultural pressures and show why each of these presents a false cure. Instead, scripture offers true antidotes: community rather than withdrawal, sound teaching rather than scepticism, repentance rather than autonomy, and humility rather than the pursuit of social acceptance. We will touch on the wider cultural forces such as consumerism, expressive individualism, emotionalism without depth, and intellectualism without practice, each of which distorts authentic Christian faith. Christ’s challenge remains the same: “Will you also go away?” Peter’s response provides the antidote: “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” Ultimately, this presentation seeks to strengthen believers, clarify the difference between healthy doubt and destructive scepticism, and call to a faith that is rooted in Christ, lived in community, formed by sound teaching, and sustained by steadfast trust in God.

[Bro. Stephen and his wife Sis. Sandra are members of the Riverwood Ecclesia and is the host of the popular podcast Wilderness Conversations where he interviews guests on various Bible-based topics.]

Empires of Dust, Kingdom in the sky (Grahame Grieve, Ringwood, Vic in F04)

Jesus came preaching the kingdom of heaven. But what did he exactly mean by ‘kingdom of heaven’? I will build on Jesus message to show how Jesus simple wording presents us with a radical alternative to the ways of men, and calls us to rise above such mud-mired humans and fly like eagles. This message is ever more relevant as humans try yet again to build a magic kingdom in the sky through AI.

[Bro. Grahame is a keen and caring Bible student who works as an IT leader in the healthcare industry. We welcome Grahame and Sis. Kath to Brisbane.]

Ezekiel’s Temple – Not What, But Why (Geoff Henstock, Happy Valley, SA in F03)

The prophecy in Ezekiel chapters 40 to 48 is challenging. The text can be tedious to read and many wonder exactly why we need this level of detail. Some find the prophecy captivating, while others feel tempted to skip these chapters when they come up in our daily readings each year. In this session we will not be focusing on what the prophecy describes but rather why it was given. What was the objective in giving this prophecy to Israelites in exile in Babylon? And what is its relevance to saints today?

[Bro. Geoff is an experienced speaker and writer on scriptural topics, having published titles including ‘Mary: Handmaid of the Lord’, ‘Matthew’s Kingdom of Heaven’, ‘Mercy and Judgment: an exposition of Jonah and Nahum’ and ‘The Way of the Tree of Life’. We welcome Geoff and Sis. Jenny to Brisbane.]

Rehearsal for Conf choristers (Carl Bundesen, in the Hall)

If you are from interstate, take this opportunity to rehearse for choral items during the week!

The Ark of the Covenant (Steven Hill, South Brisbane, Qld in F10)

Where did the Ark come from and where did it travel? Where did it end up?

[Bro. Steven is our Conference Chairman, and is married to our Hospitality Coordinator, Sis. Michelle. They have two sons.]

The touch of His hand: reflections on overseas preaching (Ken & Gillian Pooley, Shaftsbury Road, NSW in C13)

Journey with Ken and Gilly Pooley to Indonesia, the Asian archipelago above Australia, where, nestled up close and personal with Islam and poverty, a small light for Jesus shines brightly. Share ‘The Touch of His Hand’ with brothers and sisters who welcome us into their spiritual home as we seek to encourage and strengthen their fellowship. Their struggles mirror ours, yet they face them with meagre emotional and spiritual support. Come with us into their homes, witness their resilience, and see how simple human touch becomes a pathway for God to ease, soothe, and restore. Meet refugees supported by the ACBM who endure fragile uncertainty, and share a glimpse of their faith and hope that never gives up amid abject hopelessness. We invite you to join in discussion on how we can help make Jesus’ prophecy a reality: ‘And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come’. (Matthew 24:14)

[Bro. Ken and Sis. Gillian have conducted many visits to Indonesia, Timor-Leste and China to assist in the work of the ACBM. Ken is also the current ACBM’s National Secretary.]

Turning Point: Hold Fast (Adam Byrnes, Castle Hill, NSW in E18)

Jacob’s life demonstrates radical character transformation from self-willed wrestler against God to one who holds fast and waits continually on God. This is evidenced by his response to tragedies like his daughter’s rape, his sons’ violence, and Joseph’s apparent death, where he pauses to seek God’s will instead of acting impulsively.

[Bro. Adam is a born and bred Sydney-ite, where he happily resides with his wife Sis. Michelle and three daughters. His “go to” in the Bible are themes and characters. His “go to” happy place is the sea.]

Session 3 - Tuesday 7th July 10:45am

Archaeology, the simulation hypothesis and a theory of in between (David Alexander, Dandenong Ranges, Vic in Library)

Italian-Palestinian excavations at Jericho (2009-2023) identify a destruction of the city around the time of Joshua’s conquest, reconfirming an aspect of the Bible record widely dismissed since Kathleen Kenyon’s excavations in the 1950s. Likewise, modern scholarship had doubted Biblical Nineveh until it was rediscovered. The interesting meta-observation here is that in between when scholarship doubted and later confirmed Biblical accuracy, believers had to follow Scripture against the ‘experts’ – waiting till science eventually caught up! Developments in artificial intelligence are now leading toward a similar about-turn regarding creation, with the increasing popularity of the simulation hypothesis: the idea that our universe has some form of creator. As with archaeology, we must stand confidently with Scripture during this period ‘in between’ the times when science rejected and will ultimately accept the existence of a creator. That day may arrive even before Christ returns.

[Bro. David is a committed follower of Jesus Christ who loves uncovering the wisdom and beauty woven throughout Scripture (examples: the women at the Temple, or Simeon called Niger). He is a research scientist by trade and also enjoys playing the piano. We welcome Brother David, Sis. Kerry and their children to Brisbane.]

By Their Fruit: Seeing and Responding to Coercive Control (Andrew & Julie Weller, Cumberland, SA in E18)

Coercive control is often unseen by others, yet its fruit is unmistakable: fear, secrecy, confusion, and diminished freedom. With new laws in some states, this session will help us recognise coercive control as a sustained pattern of domination causing harm and restricting liberty. We will learn how to distinguish it from ordinary conflict or the normal difficulties of marriage. Shaped by Jesus’ teaching that a tree is known by its fruit, and his call to protect the oppressed, we will consider what to look for when behaviour is concealed, and how to distinguish image management from repentance that is real, accountable, and demonstrated over time. We will also outline safe, compassionate first responses to disclosure—believing, prioritising safety (including children), maintaining confidentiality, offering practical support, and honouring survivor agency—so our ecclesias become safe places rather than risks. Q&A included.

[Bro. Andrew and Sis. Julie are co-authors of By Their Fruit: Seeing and Responding to Coercive Control and Breaking the Cycle: A Scriptural Response to Domestic Violence. Along with website hearbelieveact.org these are resources that equip individuals, families, and ecclesias to recognise domestic violence and respond with clarity, compassion, and accountability. For the past 15 years, they have supported survivors and their families, and worked alongside ecclesias to strengthen safe responses, confronting sin and promoting healing in Christ’s ecclesia.]

God, the Master Potter (Vit Jurevicius, Mount Barker, SA in E19)

The sheer wonder of who God is, what He does and how intimately He knows us is utterly amazing to each of us. Psalm 139 He knows that the capacity of our finite minds to comprehend His awesome brilliance is limited by our earthly physical bodies and experiences. God uses metaphors to help us understand His non-natural entities. He uses us and our relationships to teach us about Himself… as Potter and Metalworker; as Composer and Performer; as Garmentmaker and Dresser; as Gardener and Orchardist; as Farmer and Vinegrower; as Shepherd and Pasturer; as Tentmaker and Camper; as Builder and Architect; as the great Designer and Artist. In the practical demonstration of God, the Master Potter, I will take you through the process of working with various clay bodies on the potter’s wheel. We are all unique lumps of clay shaped by caring expert hands and are being created into vessels fit for the Master’s use.

[Bro. Vit is an accomplished painter and potter and taught art to school students for many years. He enjoys relating his artistic work to the Master Potter and Artist, our Heavenly Father. We welcome Vit and his wife Sis Kathryn to our Conference!]

Israel – Whose Land is it Really (Sid Levett, Canterbury, Vic in F04)

As Christadelphians we have long been familiar with God’s purpose with Israel. It has been a central feature of our belief. Talks on Israel’s past and future are, however, now less frequent. How clearly do we currently understand this core issue? In contrast we have been assailed with Hamas propaganda and its often unquestioned portrayal in the Western media. In this talk we will address the significant Biblical statements on God’s plan for Israel and consider recent issues in the region. UNWANTED: The People Who Would Not Disappear (Mark Hill, Shaftsbury Road, NSW in Theatre)

View a film produced by br Mark using high definition video footage he shot on location in Europe and Israel. An evocative, powerful, cinematic telling of the exile and endurance of God’s chosen people — unwanted and shunned in some of Europe’s most beautiful cities. The scars of persecution, carved into a breathtaking landscape, stand as an enduring testimony to God’s faithfulness.

[Bro. Mark is a keen videographer and has compiled videos from his trips to Israel and Europe to bolster our belief in the reality of God’s work with his people.]

Who’s who in the zoo? (Graham Parcell, Hyde Park, SA in F10)

There are many complex Personality theories and Psychometric tests available today to attempt to identify personality traits and styles; most of them are very complex. Unless you have the luxury of performing a psych-test on everyone you meet it may all be guess-work. In our session we hope to identify your preferred style of operating and personality traits to help you both understand yourself and others more accurately. Why do certain people annoy you whilst others make you feel great and you enjoy your interactions? In this fun session you will be better able to understand what makes people tick, their thinking-style and how to get along better with people in your family, your ecclesia and your places of work or study.

NB Graham would like all participants to complete a quick personality survey PRIOR to the session. Please download the PDF, complete it and save, then email it to gp@opalsearch.com (you may wish to bring a copy along with you)

[Bro. Graham is a passionate Bible student whose favourite subject is creation. Graham is a Executive Search Consultant based in Adelaide. We welcome Graham and Jenny to Brisbane.]

Session 4 - Tuesday 7th July 4pm

Bible Timeline: Adam to Moses (Denis Arthur, South Brisbane, Qld in F10)

The genealogical record in Genesis is arguably the pinnacle of all the world’s historical accounts. We will explore some of the ‘overlapping’ gems in this record aided by a printed handout, as well as considering some ‘finer detail’ support from non-inspired documents. A ‘probable’ year of creation can also be plotted using Scriptural dates and times

[Bro. Denis and Sis. Marilyn are longstanding members of the South Brisbane Ecclesia and, through many preaching efforts, have worked over many years to promote the love of God’s Word as well as the harmony of the ecclesial world.]

Divine Providence and the Dead Sea Scrolls (Geoff Henstock, Happy Valley, SA in Library)

The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls was a major event in terms of Bible scholarship. This session is not about the importance of the scrolls and how they confirm the integrity of the Bible text we use today, but rather the remarkable circumstances surrounding their discovery. We will see the hand of God at work and be astonished!

We welcome Bro. Geoff his wife Sis. Jenny to Brisbane.]

God, the Master Artist (Vit Jurevicius, Mount Barker, SA in E19)

In the session of God the Master Artist, I will produce a painting and involve you in seeing the beauty of God working with a blank canvas using various colours and techniques to create in us, the blank canvas, a masterpiece.

[Bro. Vit is an accomplished painter and potter and taught Art to school students for many years. He enjoys relating his artistic work to the Master Potter and Artist, our Heavenly Father. We welcome Vit and his wife Sis. Kathryn to our Conference!]

Making sense of fear (Peter Window, Wilston, Qld in F03)

Rehearsal for Conf choristers (Carl Bundesen, in C13)

If you are from interstate take this opportunity to rehearse for choral items during the week.

TAFEA Health Care Association (Warren & Jeannie Barton, Toowoomba, Qld in F04)

At this session, Jeannie & Warren will be sharing a reflection built around a simple but important theme: God never leaves His work unfinished and will draw on lived experience, exploring how faith is shaped and sustained through uncertainty, delay, and perseverance, and how God continues to work quietly and faithfully even when the path ahead is unclear. Hear about the health and community work taking place on Tanna Island and beyond, including the development of maternity and clinical care. The practical impact this work has had on individuals, families, and local communities will also be explained. Alongside this, they will share the principles that guide the work — seeking to serve God faithfully and to reflect the character and compassion of the Lord Jesus Christ in practical ways. This is not simply a story about buildings or projects, but about God’s presence, His faithfulness, and the way He prepares people and communities for what comes next. There will also be opportunity for questions, for those who would like to better understand the purpose, challenges, and outcomes of the work, and how it encourages us to live out our faith as disciples seeking to emulate the heart of Christ.

[Bro. Warren and Sis. Jeannie are passionate believers in practical christianity. Having seen the lack of basic healthcare first hand, they built an Aid Post at Loanialu on the island of Tanna in 2013 with the combined assistance from Toowoomba Rotary Inc. and Mitsukaido, Japan. Three years later on 26 June 2016, the Vanuatu Government upgraded its status to a Medical Dispensary in recognition of the nursing care given to the community. Their work continues today, supporting communities, families and births.]

When God spoke Greek—the Septuagint and ‘the mystery’ (Ken Chalmers, Canterbury, Vic – in E22)

It may not be understood how much we are indebted to the translation of the Hebrew Old Testament into the commonly spoken Greek of New Testament times. It is possible that the ‘Bible’ known and mainly used by Jesus and the apostles was the Greek Old Testament. In this session we shall explore how the Septuagint ‘came to be’, why God may have used its production, including how it is used in the New Testament and how it may have had significant importance in ensuring the spread of the Gospel to a non Hebrew speaking, Gentile world. Unsurprisingly, while not a forensic examination (the presenter is not a linguist!) we will gain some insights into divine providence and inspiration and find God’s ‘fingerprints’ in interesting places.

[Bro. Ken is a Melbourne native where he and wife Sis. Dorothy are active members of the Canterbury Ecclesia. They are also involved in Bible Mission work, particularly in South Asia and Ken currently serves on the ACBM’s Victorian Regional committee and the National Refugee support group. Both are retired from paid employment but continue in various pursuits. Ken’s interests continue in the natural sciences, in which he was originally educated and is an avid reader and Bible student.]

CRAC refugees – Get out of your country to a place I will show you (Garry Hindmarsh, Torono, NSW in F10)

Hear the latest of what’s going on and how you can be part of this amazing redemptive work. The people of Persia have been associated with Christianity and with Jewish communities since the days of Cyrus the Great. Eighty-nine Iranian family members have arrived in Australia since 2024 and there are twenty-nine more to come.

Thanks goes to forty-one incredible generous employers and hundreds of Christadelphians across Australia who have generously donated thousands of dollars to facilitate this resettlement. Session 5 - Saturday 11th July 2:00pm

Biblical Foundations for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (David Buttsworth, North Brisbane, Qld in C14)

Principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion do have a biblical foundation, but are they fully compatible with the ideologies of modern Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) movements? Progressive and conservative politics have drawn battle lines over DEI policies. While few of us truly remain untouched by political ideologies and cultural shifts, this workshop primarily seeks to examine DEI in the context of scriptural truths. We can recognise the creation of mankind in God’s image, the prophetic calls for justice, our Master’s radical inclusion of society’s marginalised, and the multi-ethnic gospel call. Although DEI discussions are frequently polarizing in a secular context, we will aim to journey through key biblical passages to become better equipped disciples with encouraging gospel perspectives on this challenging topic.

[Apart from being a keen Bible student, Bro. David is a rocket scientist (Professor of Thermofluids Engineering) working on spacecraft heat shields and scramjet propulsions systems that have the potential to change the way we launch satellites into space.]

Exploring Grief and Loss (Louise Buttsworth, North Brisbane, Qld in F10)

Facing Grief and Loss is an intensely human experience and most of us, if not all, will experience this at some point in our life (and maybe a multiple of times). I will look at different types of loss, the process of grief, strategies on how to navigate our own personal grief, how to help others in their grief, and will also look at some Biblical examples. There will be opportunity for sharing (if comfortable) and discussion throughout the session. Confidentiality will be discussed and requested at the start of the session,

[Sis. Louise is a Pastoral Care Coordinator at the Toowoomba Hospice. Louise brings boundless energy and dedication to every pursuit. We thank her for presenting to us at Brisbane.]

Henry VIII and the translation of the King James bible (Peter Osborne, Wilston, Qld in Library)

2026 is the 500th anniversary of the first translation of the Bible from its original language into English by William Tyndale. What do Henry VIII, Ann Boleyn, the printing press and the English Bible have in common?

[Bro. Peter is a dedicated Bible student, is qualified in and has a keen interest in history, especially as it relates to Bible prophecy and the word of God through the ages.]

Irrationality in the Bible (Tim Buttsworth, Riverwood, NSW in E22)

[Tim has a doctorate in Mathematics, works in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New South Wales. Tim, his wife Sis Jordyn and their daughter attend Riverwood Ecclesia.]

Loneliness – panel discussion (Matt Hocking, Kedron Brook, Qld in C13)

The latest global health concern identified by the WHO is ‘Loneliness’. Loneliness has grown steadily over the past few decades, intensifying with urbanisation, digital life, family fragmentation, and the social isolation experienced during COVID-19. But what exactly is loneliness, and how does it differ from simply being alone? What mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual conditions does it affect? Where does the vulnerability lie? Are children, young adults, parents, the elderly, single people, carers, and those with disability all affected in different ways? Most importantly, what can we do — especially to support our Christadelphian community? How can we ensure our churches become places of belonging rather than attendance, of shared life rather than shared space? What practical steps can foster genuine connection, hospitality, intergenerational relationships, and pastoral care? Please join Matt (a practicing psychiatrist) and his panel, Naomi (University lecturer) and Nerida (a pastoral carer) and Amie (a neuropsychologist) as they discuss how we can develop living answers to a lonely world.

[Bro. Matt is a practicing Psychiatrist in Brisbane, where he has worked for more than 15 years with interests in mood disorders, anxiety, neurodiversity, trauma and addiction disorders. Matt, Sis. Priscilla and their children attend the Kedron Brook ecclesia.]

Overcoming Temptation – FOR YOUTH (James Robinson, San Francisco Peninsula Ecclesia, CA in Youth Hub)

Ever been disappointed that reciting a Bible verse doesn’t make you stop being hungry? If so, this session is for you! Building on first principles about the real source of temptation, we’ll find practical ways from the Bible to handle your desires for the wrong things. Leave behind the cycle of sin and shame, and learn from Jesus, Paul, and David how to keep yourself pure.

[Bro. James’ parents instilled God’s word in him from a young age. After looking over the edge of a cliff at Bible School, James realized he needed his own relationship with God, and was baptized in 2005. After graduating, he moved to California, where his grandparents (Bro. Bob and Sis. Peggy Lloyd) lived. There, he joined the San Francisco Peninsula ecclesia, and works as a computer engineer. James currently enjoys studying Japanese, and is working on internationalizing thisisyourbiblecom]

TAFEA Health Care Association (Warren & Jeannie Barton, Toowoomba, Qld in F03)

ACBM – the Asia Pacific mission areas (Jonno Nutter, Wamuran, Qld in F03)

We hope this presentation will be able to touch your heart and exhibit to the listener the important, fun and exciting work that the ACBM is doing and how you can be involved in it.

[Bro. Jonno is passionate about preaching in the mission areas and is heavily involved in the work of the Qld ACBM. His wife, Sis Ren, is Cambodian and they travel back to Cambodia often to support the mission activities there.]

Bible Timeline: Adam to Moses (Denis Arthur, South Brisbane, Qld in E18)

Construction – Building Faith: The Antidote to Deconstruction (Stephen Dodson, Riverwood, NSW in E22)

In an age where ‘deconstruction’ has become a public, celebrated, and socially reinforced trend, many Christians find their faith shaken or abandoned. This talk explores why deconstruction has become so prominent and why it is not a new phenomenon, tracing its roots from modern philosophy back to the experiences of Jesus’s earliest disciples. Christ’s challenge remains the same: ‘Will you also go away?’ Peter’s response provides the antidote: ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life’. Ultimately, this presentation seeks to strengthen believers, clarify the difference between healthy doubt and destructive scepticism, and call to a faith that is rooted in Christ, lived in community, formed by sound teaching, and sustained by steadfast trust in God.

[Bro. Stephen and Sis. Sandra are active members of the Riverwood Ecclesia. Stephen is the host of the popular podcast Wilderness Conversations where he interviews guests on various Bible-based topics.]

Empires of Dust, Kingdom in the sky (Grahame Grieve, Ringwood, Vic in E19)

Jesus came preaching the kingdom of heaven. But what did he exactly mean by ‘kingdom of heaven’? I will build on Jesus message to show how Jesus simple wording presents us with a radical alternative to the ways of men, and calls us to rise above such mud-mired humans and fly like eagles. This message is ever more relevant as humans try yet again to build a magic kingdom in the sky through AI.

The touch of His hand: reflections on overseas preaching (Ken & Gillian Pooley, Shaftsbury Road, NSW in C14)

Journey with Ken and Gilly Pooley to Indonesia, the Asian archipelago above Australia, where, nestled up close and personal with Islam and poverty, a small light for Jesus shines brightly. Share “The Touch of His Hand” with brothers and sisters who welcome us into their spiritual home as we seek to encourage and strengthen their fellowship. We invite you to join in discussion on how we can help make Jesus’ prophecy a reality: “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14)

[Bro. Ken and Sis. Gillian have conducted many visits to Indonesia, Timor-Leste and China to assist in the work of the ACBM. Ken is also the current ACBM’s National Secretary.]

What is the gospel? And why does it matter? – FOR YOUTH (Richard B Hillhouse, North West, NSW in Theatre)

What is the gospel? And why does it matter? It seems a bit weird that in a community so focused on the scriptures, we can still find it tricky to articulate what the ‘gospel’ actually is – this “gospel by which we are saved.” This can hold us back from wholehearted commitment… because we’re not entirely sure what we’re committing to; and/or it can impact our effectiveness as preachers… because we’re not entirely sure what our message is. In this session we’ll aim to distill the beautiful complexity of the scriptures down to the simple truth/s of the ‘gospel’. Hopefully this process will help inform your own personal decisions around faith; and potentially increase your confidence to share the gospel with others.

[Bro. Richard is a keen Bible student and has worked for many years across NSW measuring river flows. He and his wife Sis. Erin have three children and live on a small farm near Tamworth, NSW.]
